Las Merindades, located in the north of Burgos, is a natural and historical gem that combines spectacular landscapes with a fascinating cultural heritage. Throughout this trip, we will discover gorges, waterfalls, and charming villages that will transport us to another era. From the impressive canyons of the Ebro River to the magical Nervión waterfall, we will embark on an adventure that blends hiking, history, and local gastronomy.
July 6.- Arrival at Bilbao Airport at 9:40h. Transfer to the hotel in Villarcayo (Hotel Doña Jimena). In the afternoon, we take a short hike through the Desfiladero de los Hocinos (6km) and visit the Monastery of Rioseco.
July 7.- Possible routes: Cascada de las Pisas or Cascada de la Salceda. Lunch and visit to Puentedey.
July 8.- Transfer to Herrán for the Desfiladero del Río Purón hike (10km). Afterward, we head to Frías for lunch and a visit. On the way back, stop at Oña (entry 3€).
July 9.- Hike through the Ebro Canyon from Pesquera de Ebro to Quintanilla-Escalada (11km). Then, visit and lunch in Orbaneja del Castillo.
July 10.- Hike in Espinosa de los Monteros to the Guarguero Waterfall (12km). If weather permits, ascent to the Estacas de Trueba Pass. Lunch and visit to Espinosa. In the afternoon, visit to the Ojo Guareña Caves (entry 4€).
July 11.- Visit to Monte de Santiago and the Nervión Waterfall, the highest in Spain, with a short hike to view it. Lunch in Orduña and free time in Bilbao before heading to the airport.
